Players from Spain and Japan took home close to one million dollars following their success at the just-concluded Magical Kenya Open. A part from producing the winner-Jorge Campillo- 12 Spaniards made the cut and pocketed a total of Kshs 83 million.
Interestingly, Spain had close to 100% success rate as 12 players out of the 13 who entered the competition made the cut. Alfredo Garcia-Heredia missed the cut by one stroke after posting 68 and 74. Three Spaniards made it to the top 10. Santiago Tarrio finished joint third after posting -15 while compatriot Borja Virto was tied in fifth position on -14.
Japan was the second most successful country placing two players in the top 10 out of the four who started. Whereas Rikuya Hoshino and Aguri Iwasaki missed the cut, Masahiro Kawamura and Ryo Hisatsune finished second and joint third respectively. The duo pocketed Kshs 47 million.
The South African contingent had a relatively poor outing at this year’s tournament. Despite fielding the highest number of players- 22- only 12 made the cut. And their usual dominance could not be felt at the top of the leaderboard with only Jayden Schaper making it to the top 10 in position seven with a gross score of -13. The South Africans carted home Kshs 31 million. England pros with eight players in the weekend rounds out of a starting lineup of 20 took home Kshs 13 million.
The winner took home Kshs 43 million while the lowest placed player Tristen Strydom who finished in position 79 earned Kshs 380,000.
