Top pros in danger of missing out on Kenya Open slots in Safari Tour finale

Several top local pros are in danger of missing out on Magical Kenya Open 2023 slots as the final leg of the Safari Tour heads to Muthaiga from tomorrow. Among the players walking a tightrope include David Wakhu, Erick Ooko, Mohit Mediratta, Edwin Mudanyi, Mutahi Kibugu, Daniel Nduva and CJ Wangai.

A total of 10 players- eight locals and two foreigners- will qualify for Magical Kenya Open 2023. The top eight local players in the Tour 2022/23 Order of Merit will gain automatic entry while a couple of slots are reserved for the top two foreigners.

Going by the current standings, four local pros- Greg Snow, Samuel Njoroge, Simon Ngige and Dismas Indiza- have already earned their slots while the race for the two foreigners’ slots is headed for an exciting finish in a four-way battle between Zimbabweans Robson Chinhoi, Visitor Mapwanya and Nyasha Muyambo taking on Uganda’s Ronald Rugumayo.

Interestingly, foreign pros have dominated the 2022/23 season and currently occupy four places in the top-10 on the order of merit. Chinhoi, who finished second last year behind Indiza is on top of the log closely followed by Snow after five events. Chinhoi has so far won two events- Uganda Open and Sigona-while his compatriot Muyambo triumphed at Limuru. The other two victories were claimed by Nduva (Vipingo) and Njoroge (Karen).

The final leg of the Tour has attracted more than 60 players.
