In-form amateur Njoroge Kibugu shot the day’s best round of two under 70 to move to third on the individual players’ leaderboard as he kept alive Team Kenya’s hope of a podium finish at the All-Africa Junior Golf Challenge at the Palm Hills Golf Course in Cairo.
Kibugu had a flawless run on the back nine where he picked up one birdie after cautiously maneuvering the tough-playing front nine where he had dropped two shots. However, a run of three birdies ensured that Kibugu moved three places up the leaderboard on +2 gross. He starts tomorrow’s round 10 shots behind the leader, South Africa’s Pascal Gunther, who also shot -2 today for -8 gross.
Team Kenya stayed in fourth place after Andrew Wahome shot a consecutive +8 round today while compatriot Krish Shah managed +12 for +23 gross six better than Elvis Muigua. South Africa tops the table on -2 gross, followed by Morocco on +13 while Zimbabwe wraps up the podium places on +34 gross.
In the girls’ category, Team Kenya dropped one place on the leaderboard to 5th on +58 gross to stay 64 shots behind leaders South Africa. Alyssa Jamal posted +13 today, the team’s best score, ahead of Belinda Wanjiru +18 and Bianca Ngecu’s +22. South Africa tops the charts on -8 gross ahead of Morocco +5 and Zimbabwe +20.
The winning boys team and runners-up, plus the winning girls team will qualify for the annual Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.
