Daniel Nduva shot an impressive four under par 68 opening round as the penultimate leg of the Safari Tour 2022/23 season got underway at Karen Country Club today.
Nduva who won the Vipingo leg, started strongly with three birdies on the front nine and one dropped shot for two under 34 at the interval. The South Africa-based player maintained the form on the back nine with eagles on the 15th and 18th holes but was pegged back by a double bogey on the 10th and another dropped shot on the 13th as he closed the day one shot ahead of Rwanda’s Celestine Nsanzuwera.
“Today my game was good all-round. I have really put a lot of work in my short game especially chipping which had been a bit problematic. It’s always great to have a good start and I just look forward to building on the momentum tomorrow,” said Nduva.
Nsanzuwera, seeking a first win on the Safari Tour, had a good start as he registered back-to-back birdies on the second and third holes before bogeying the ninth but a strong show on the back nine headlined by an eagle and birdie on the 12th and 18th holes respectively for a decent 69 put him in a strong position to aim at the title when action resumes tomorrow.
Six players- Dismas Indiza, CJ Wangai, Jastas Madoya, Tony Omuli, John Limb and Ronald Rugumayo- are tied in third on two under 70.
A total of 72 local and regional players registered for the penultimate round as the they chase for qualification to Magical Kenya Open. The field will be cut to top 20 plus ties after tomorrow’s round.
