Kshs 3 million up for grabs at Safari Tour season finale

A strong field of 77 players is in action at Muthaiga Golf Club today for the eighth leg of the Safari Tour.  The purse for the event which marks the end of the Tour season has been increased by 50% to Kshs 3million with the winner taking home Kshs 450,000.

Besides the cash motivation, the event will be used to determine the last three qualifiers- one Kenyan and two foreigners – to the Magical Kenya Open. Dismas Indiza, Simon Ngige, Eric Ooko, Greg Snow, David Wakhu, Samuel Njoroge and Jastas Madoya have already qualified while Zimbabwe’s Chinhoi has already grabbed one of the three tickets available to foreign pros on Safari Tour. It will be a high stakes event for Edwin Mudanyi and Mohit Mediratta while Ugandan Deo Akope, Malawi’s Paul Chidale, Andrew Odoh from Nigeria and Zimbabwe’s Visitor Mapwanya will be chasing the pro tickets.

Six amateurs who qualified for Magical Kenya Open are also drawn to familiarize themselves with the course.

On the PGA Tour, rookie Sahith Theegala’s lead was cut to one stroke as defending champion Brooks Koepka maintained pressure on the leader at yesterday’s third round of the WM Phoenix Open. Theegala shot -2 for a -14 gross to lead the field for the second consecutive day. Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay and Talor Gooch are two shots off the pace in third position.
